JUST IN: Mumbai Court Cancels Non-Bailable Warrant Against Sanjay Dutt
Sanjay Dutt is a relieved man as the court cancelled the non-bailable warrant against him over alleged threat to filmmaker Shakeel Noorani
On April 15,
Mumbai Court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Sanjay Dutt for not
appearing before the court in connection with a criminal intimidation complaint
filed by producer Shakeel Noorani.
Now, in what can
be termed as relief for Sanjay Dutt, the magistrate court cancelled the
warrant. The actor came to
the court with his advocates to file the application before magistrate
CV Patil.
He refused to
talk to the media and was whisked away from the courtroom to his car parked on
the premises.
The case is that
of the shooting of one of Noorani's films, for which Sanjay had apparently
charged Rs 50 lakh as fee but did not complete the film. Buzz is, Dutt turned
up for the shoot only for two days.
Before filing the court case, Shakeel Noorani had approached the doors of
Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association and the verdict went in favour of
Noorani when Sanjay was asked to pay around Rs 2 Cr as compensation to Noorani
because of the incomplete movie. Later, Sanjay Dutt refused to obey the order
passed by IMPPA, in the wake of which Noorani moved the Bombay High Court to
get the IMPPA order executed. The High Court had then ordered attachment of two
of Sanjay Dutt’s properties in Mumbai.
Soon after,
Shakeel Noorani again complained of getting threatening calls from the
underworld. It is said that Sanjay Dutt had allegedly complained to underworld
don Dawood Ibrahim about Shakeel Noorani over telephone.
Meanwhile, soon after the warrant, a statement was issued by Sanjay Dutt’s
spokesperson which said, “This case has been going on since a long time and the
present situation has arisen because of the communication lapse between our
lawyers and us. We respect the urgency shown by the honourable court regarding
our attendance/representation and we would take immediate measure to rectify
the situation.”
